Websites

My favorite websites include: Modcloth, YouTube, and a Swedish blog called Niotillfem. Modcloth is a cool clothing website because it shows every angel of the clothing showcased. They also give each item a backstory, tell what fabrics they are made out of, give measurements, and allow the website users to rate the articles of clothing. They is a blog attached and a tab that allows the members of the website to vote on the next article of clothing that will be made. This website is exciting and appealing because it is quite clean looking and the color palate mostly consists of bright pastels. If I could make my own website it would allow people to social network while ahowcasing articles of clothing. To explain; my website would sell clothing and allow people to make suggestions as to how to make it better. I would also allow people to send in samples of their own work and if it were good enough I would sell it on the site and give the proceeds to the desiger. They would also be a lookbook and blog tab attached. So that the peoplecould take photos of themselves in their version of the clothing and the people who worked at my website could also post their opinions about fashion. Every holiday their would be a twenty minute period where every article of clothing would be 75% off, therefore allowing people to get the outfits they want the most (because most online stores are expensive).

Living without technology?

Technology is not absolutely necessary but it is definately a huge time saver and helps to regulate the flow of life. If I didn't have technology I would probably be more stressed out (believe me I don not need anymore stree). If we didn't have any technology a mass number of people would die. We desperatly need technology to help us to do surgeries and to regulate our body temperatures. Without technology we wouldn't have as many resources to help us to cool of in the summer so more people would probably suffer from heat stroke. But I think it would be rather nice if we didn't have any cars because then we could ride bikes everywhere. Although having no technology would definatly work against me and my future. This is because it would be a lot harder for me to stay in touch with my friends and family. This might cause all of us to grow apart. I also would get less sleep because I would only use books to do homework. Technology is very important to have for the classroom because it helps us to get information quicker and more effciently. It also helps us to learn more and to have access to more examples of the information we are learning.

Databases vs. Spreadsheets

A database contains an organized collections of information that is used for multiple purposes. They are used by computer Programers and Security Guards. I encounter databases everyday through search engines and libraries. Spreadsheets usually need mathematical formulas and equations in order to file the information. A database doesn't always need equations and formulas to work because sometimes it has nothing to do with math. Sometimes, it organizes books, food, or house cleaning supplies instead of numbers and dollar signs. But a spreadsheets usually deals with digits and is ideally found in Microsoft Excel.

Current events

Apple has postponed the international launch of the ipad due to high demand in the States. They have had to increase their inventory because of this demand. Apple says they didn't expect so many people to want their product. The first day ipad were released to the public 300,000 were sold. Many people have pre-ordered and Apple is working to meet all of these needs, but for now the ipad will not be released internationally until the end of May.

The story of romeo and Juliet is being "acted out" on twitter for the duration of five weeks. This is being created by the Royal Shakespeare Company and Mudlark a mobile entertainment company. The actors aren't using the common Shakespearian lingo rather they have modernized the lines and the scenes. They will be following a loose adaptation of the classic story-line in order to accomplish this. The entire story can be followed on suchsweetsorrow.com.

Without technology?

There isn't a piece of technology I can't live without. I enjoy my technological devices but I don't absolutely need them. But, if i had to pick one that I liked the most I would say my laptop because it gives me access to all of my music and my favorite blogs. For a month if I couldn't use the device I would read instead. HOWEVER, they wouldn't just be any ordinary books!! I would read witty books such as Dorian Gray (reading it right now! love it!) and other pieces of literature that get my thought process flowing. I could also go outside more (need that vitamin D) and frolic around with my family.

Before the laptop existed people probably didn't know so much about other people on other sides of the world. Also, homework was probably more difficult because people would have to use encyclopedias and newspapers in order to learn about the world. Back then people had to go out into record stores in order to find music and they could only get a hold of people in other parts of the world by mailing or calling them.

Laptops are definitely helpful because of there easy access to news, informations, and entertainment. But in the end I don't think I would miss mine that much because even though it gives me access to the world electronically I could physically explore the world instead.

Competition for the Helper

Our competitions includes companies that create grab claws and the swifter sweeper because we basically combined the two. The market can be somewhat hard to break into if proper advertisement is not made. I think as long as we showcase that the Handy Helper can extend and can do more then those two products we shall be fine. We will stay one step ahead of the competition by having a research and development team and consulting with our costumers about their opinion of the product. Our product is worth the investment because it will help the disabled to grab things from far away and to clean their house. They shouldn't have to suffer a dirty house because they are hassled with getting the cleaning solution and washcloths. It's also great for cleaning services so that they can clean high up areas without getting on a latter and running the risk of falling. Our product would make peoples' life easier and help businesses to become more efficient.

Paper Doll Project

The point of this project was to learn our way around the program Gimp. I taught us how to cut and past photos onto other backgrounds and how to resize objects. It was helpful because it familiurized us with the program and how to use it. We also learned how to cut and paste clothing onto people to give the illusion that they are actually waearing it.

Product purchasing

People who are disabled will buy our product because it is ideal for reaching high ares. But it is also good for house keepers, maids, and any average Joe. It will also work for clean freaks, those people who just have to clean every area in sight not leaving a speak of dust behind. If someone needs help reaching high up areas or cleaning high areas the Handy Helper should be able to help them. we will sell our product in CVS, Walgreens, and the cleaning supplies isle of any grocery store. We can sell our product using build-boards, commercials, and posters. But, especially posters because they'll be nice to have in doctor's waiting rooms or in hospitals so that people with disabilities know that there is something like this out there.

The Handy Helper's Benefits

Our product will help people with disabilities to be more independent. They will be able to reach for and grab the things they need without having to ask someone for help every time. They'll also be able to clean the area around them so that they can live in cleanliness. They will be able to reach high dusty places and to purify the area around them by getting rid of dust and grime. This independence will give the person more self confidence to do things on their own.

Also this product works for regular people especially for cleaning high up areas. For example my dad has to dangerously stand on a latter to dust one of our lights. But with the Handy Helper my dad wouldn't have to stand so high on a dangerous latter. Instead he would be able to use our product to clean it without risking injury.

Yoplait promotions

Yoplait promotes their product through creative commercials. This commercial is unique because of how they present the idea of eating healthy food that tastes like desserts. They also have that itty bitty yellow polka dot bikini commercial with that catchy jingle. Not only is it catchy but it has become a popular song among television viewers. There commercials work because they catch the viewers eye and are rememberable.

There commercial about eating healthy yogurt that tastes like desserts is a good angle because now- a- days the majority of us have a crazy sweet tooth and have trouble controlling it. I know I do. That's why I am so happy that I can't eat sugar any more. But to replace that void in my life I can consume yoplait yogurt instead. Yes, I find their promotion to be reasonable and I buy the idea of being able to eat a dessert tasting yogurt without getting fat.

Their promotion presents an ideal that we all hope to find; a healthy dessert. I guess Yoplait is just the next best thing.

Mac and Disney Marketing

Marketing is when a company puts up posters, bildboards, and other advertising tools to put out information about their product.

Well, my one creative marketing campaign I have seem is the Mac advertising. It's nice because of how they make the different computer brands into people. The mac character is witty while the PC is funny in the sense that he is tenacious to have people believe that a PC is a good computer. The lines of the characters and background are crisp and pleasing to the eye. Every commercial is creative and funny, I always enjoy them and think of them as amusing.

Disney World ads also catches my eye because they are magical and cute.
Disney promotes their ads through commercials. These commercials usually come out after a super bowl or the world series, the winners usually star in the commercial saying that going to Disney World will be the thing they do next (since they won).

Ethics

Many questions pop up when one thinks of the advancement of technology; from robots taking over the world to the possibility that we are handicapped by computers. Other people worry about privacy laws; they are worried that cameras are watching them in their homes or workplaces. The cameras that the government positions on every street corner are questioned as being over indulgent or invasive. I think this became a problem because there's the possibility of police officers, or the operator of these computers, watching citizens when they don't need to be. I think it made people uneasy to know that they were being watched. To me there doesn't seen to be a solution to the problem because there will always be at least one person who is uneasy about the surveillance cameras.
Another issue that we face is that robots will take over the world. I'm can't say whether I agree with this or not but I can say that it is plausible. I think this became an ethical issue when writers in the 70s allowed their imaginations to go wild. This issue first came up in movies and books. Soon enough crazies began to believe it and now we have people who believe that technology is evil and malice. For some people there is a worry that technology will be come so advanced that robots will be able to take care of themselves and to take over the world. The solution to this problem is not creating technology that is smarter than us or a robot that can think on it's own. The Church doesn't say anything on robots taking over the world but I think it is possible. If an antagonist comes along and decides to create evil robots to take over the world it may happen.

Another ethical issue we face is the one of computers handicapping our physical and mental capabilities. This became a problem when people started to use the computer for simple acts such as adding and subtraction and for contacting people. It seems that computers have not only dumbed down our mental capabilities but also have stifled our social growth. The Church doesn't seem to have an opinion on it but they do seem to have an opinion on the vulgar sites that can be accessed on the computer. In a way I guess that would stifle one's social skills because it would cause someone to think that those types of services are offered by anyone. But I strongly believe that computers have some what effected us in a negative way. I appreciate what the computer does but I find that as a society we do us the computer for pointless silly things. I think this problem can be solved by everyone laying off the use of the computer and that people only use it when they really need it.
In the end I think technology causes multiple ethical problems but that it also makes life easier and more functional. I think we just need to put computers and technology to good use and to not use it for pointless stupid reasons.

Bringing power to your points

When people try to get their point across by preaching during a powerpoint it can make the presentation annoyingly ineffective. For example, when a person tries to plant a specific train of thought in your head. Let me explain, say someone is giving a presentation on women's bathing suits and how they have evolved of the years. They should not say, "Now a days if you had the choice between an itty-bitty bikini or a conservative one-piece you would pick the bikini." First of all, who does this presenter think they are? They don't know what you like, you could want a one-piece or maybe you don't want either, maybe you want something in between the bikini and the one-piece. As a presenter one must not preach. (Ah see I put "one must not preach" not you must not preach)

Also, if a presenter doesn't prepare it can make the powerpoint boring causing minds to drift and to wonder. Practice makes perfect. If they are not prepared the powerpoint could be bland when it should be colorful and entertaining, for the most part. If the power-point's color scheme is grey, white and black (and those colors aren't relevant to the presentation) they shouldn't use those colors. Use colors that are related to the topic you are talking about make it fun and add animations. Ineffective power points are boring and seem to drone on forever. If one wants their powerpoint to be effective they should practice presenting and make the powerpoint fun to look at. (with lots of colors, pictures, animations, and maybe some witty word play)

"LOL!" "that's so funny!!" What happened to genuine laughing?.....ah social networking

I think social networking is becoming rather ridiculous; people use twitter to tell the world what they are doing every moment of their lives, and we use facebook to post deep meaningful statuses so people think of us as wise and insightful. Yes, I am a guilty of this facebook crime (I will never be able bring myself to join the nuisance called twitter) but I am also well aware of how out-of-hand this whole social networking business has gotten.
We waste our time waiting for someone to log on to facebook chat so that we can talk to them. When we could pick up a phone or go out to lunch or to a movie with them. It seems now a days we have become afraid of the physical human being, hoping that we can use whatever computerized program, so that we don't have to be physically infront of someone. Some say it's to much of a hassel to call someone or to visit them. Others say that this way of social networking is quicker, this is true, however we must exercise our social muscles. We need to work our mouths and ears and become more accustom to have real in person conversations. I have noticed that due to the lack of impersonal conversation I have found my self caught up in awkward conversation with friends because we don't know what to talk about. It is not like I can ask so one,"What are you up to?" when they are standing right in front of me and I know very well what they are up to. Social networking sites are taking a toll on the classic casual conversation; a person can't say, "lol!" or "OMG!" to carry a conversation. Our conversations should contain dialogue of substance. We have to remember that we must listen to someone as they speak and digest the phrases that come out of their mouths before we start typing in our heads what we are going to say next. I feel like social networking is killing the common casual conversation, if we can't carry a casual conversation how will we ever carry a formal conversation? At a college interview we should at least be able to fake that we can speak eloquently. Overall I think social networking is getting out of hand and that it's resulting in a lack of communication skills.
